March seems to have “come in like a lion” so fingers crossed it “goes out like a lamb”

It has been so cold and we’ve had a little snow but it has been really beautiful. The blue skies have been fantastic but the wind so, so cold. March seems to have “come in like a lion” so fingers crossed it “goes out like a lamb”

We’re so looking forward to some warmer weather, some longer days and warmer evenings. It’s time to spend more time outdoors and not need so many layers on and woolly hats and gloves. I think the livestock feel the same. They are ready to shed their winter coats and enjoy grazing and sunbathing.

We’re putting up a new poly tunnel and we’re at the point where the frame is ready to sheet. As much as we want to get it done it’s just too cold. The sheet stretches when it’s warm and you can get it really tight. So we’ll leave it for a few weeks then sheet the tunnel frame then after it’s been sheeted for a little bit the tunnel will warm up and we will be able to tighten up the sheet again. Then roll on the planting. That’s the really exciting bit. With the cold weather snap and still snow in the forecast we’re still looking for comforting hearty meals.

Here are some menu ideas for the week.

  • Mince and onion pie. Serve it with salad or make some more gravy and have it with mash.
  • Beef chilli
  • Beetroot tarte tatin. Top with a little goats cheese, if you like it. For a posh lunch or supper. One of my favourite,  but I love a tarte tatin. So easy but with a wow factor that it doesn’t deserve because it takes very little making. There are more of my Beetroot recipes on our website
  • Pot roast with roasted veg with fennel, carrots and onions.
  • Mushroom omelette
  • Fruit compote crumble
