June, how can it be June already….

June, how can it be June already. The year is gathering speed and I need to stop and enjoy it. Enjoy the still days with barely a breath of wind, the clear nights to sit out and eat in the sunset. The long days when the work is hard but the rewards are just around the corner with harvests of fruits and vegetables fresh and fabulous from the gardens.

It’s difficult because the days are long and hard and we are just so near to full harvest of glorious fresh summer crops but not quite there yet.

Winter and spring crops are bolting and have given their last and the summer crops are racing to fill the gaps. It’s a later gap between crops this year probably because of the very dry winter and the cooler late spring but that’s farming.

You have to roll a little with what nature has to throw at you and plan and prepare to be quick to react. With watering, successional sowing, crops to fill gaps and quick crops to replace failed crops. Lots of plates spinning…..Meal times are easy affairs here.
