It’s always exciting when there are babies on the farm and for me the best are piglets.

We’ve got lambs and calves out in the fields but we are still waiting for 3 sows to farrow. Here we let them get on with having piglets in the way they want to with as little interference and disturbance from us.

They build themselves a big nest and get inside to give birth to their litter. You know she’s near to farrowing because she’s not interested in her breakfast. Now for a pig, that’s a sign.

They are naturally quite greedy and enjoy their food. It’s best to keep them quiet for a few days to a week. We quietly take food and water to the sow but let her have peace and quiet and rest with her new litter.

I’ll post pictures on Facebook when we have new piglets running around.
