I just can’t help it, I’m getting Christmassy…

I just can’t help it, I’m getting Christmassy.

The clocks go back at the end of the week and that, for me, marks a turn in the year. I indulge in getting wintery, warm and cosy.

When you work mostly outside you have to find ways of enjoying the winter, darker months. We get very few bright crisp days nowadays.

I remember long bright and crisp autumn’s. Cracking the ice of water troughs and making ice slides down the yard but it seems that we get warmer and darker autumn’s now.

To make it “okay” I throw myself into making things cosy. I’m even planning on putting up some solar lights in one of the poly tunnels to give it a bit of sparkle.

Even at work I wear cosy woolly scarves and bright fingerless gloves. These are often old jumpers and cardigans that won’t live to fight another day that have been cut down and made (not terribly well) into hats, scarves and gloves. Woolies are warm and cuddly and make you feel better!! And I start to plan my/our Christmas festivities. We are busy clearing and harvesting and tidying the gardens. Mulching out beds that don’t have winter crops in them and trimming hedges. We’ve planted some fruit trees in one of the tunnels and we are still full steam ahead harvesting for the boxes. There’s sprout watch too. Watching the Brussels filling up ready for Christmas. Please get your orders as soon as possible. Lara has the lists. She will be checking it twice.Back to this weeks Menu ideasSausage, mash and onion gravy.Celery and potato soupMince and dumplingsSausage with carrot, pepper and fennel slawBanana muffins with whipped cream
