Beth’s Blog – If you want me, I’m in the Potting Shed !!

Already we are seeing a change in the light. It’s much lighter in the morning and evenings. We are well under way with sowing and there are shoots popping up in the potting shed. All types of variety of wonderful veg for you this year. It’s such an exciting time.

We’ve had some pretty hard frosts too. It’s typical weather for this time of year. So we can’t get too excited and plant things out before their time. We like to grow on a strong plant which will be more resistant to slugs and other little beastie’s that would kill a very young plant or seedling.

It becomes a bit of a balancing act in the potting shed, with seed trays and young plants and tender potted plants jostling for space by the time the last frost has been and gone. It’s all great fun, building more temporary shelving and tables to house all the seedlings. It’s fabulous as we empty the potting shed and it goes back to being tidy and neat.

This weeks menu ideas:

Baked potatoes with our Polpetonne meat balls and homemade coleslaw and salad.

It’s National Meatball day on Thursday, so way not cook our Polpetonne meatball classic Italian style with a rich tomato sauce, pasta and plenty of grated cheese.

Sweet potato cakes with poached eggs

Steak pie, even if you just buy some ready made and put a top only on it. A pie is so satisfying, both to serve and to eat. Serve it with potato wedges or creamy mash and steamed greens.

Spicy carrot and lentil soup

….and wonderful carrot cake.
